ONLINE COMMUNITY BRINGS CRUCIAL AID TO MYANMAR AND CHINA
Significant increase in donations to ADRA during tragedies demonstrates success of online appeals

IRVINE, CA – JUNE 25, 2008 – When Hurricane Nargis and the Chinese earthquake struck in Asia, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) was on the ground immediately with aid.   As the situations on the ground rapidly deteriorated into large-scale disasters, ADRA turned to its online community for help – and people responded in overwhelming numbers.  With the aid of Trinet Internet Solutions, Inc., a full service web firm headquartered in Irvine, CA, ADRA petitioned for help on www.adra.org and via email.  Through timely appeals and press releases, ADRA saw donations increase by 273% from April to May

“Our online efforts were crucial to our mission to bring aid to devastated communities in Myanmar and China,” said Tina Hudgins, assistant manager for marketing and development for ADRA. “Trinet’s expertise helped us to respond to those most in need.”

Hurricane Nargis hit Myanmar on May 2nd, leaving more than 134,000 people dead or missing and at least 2.4 million homeless. Ten days later, an earthquake hit Sichuan, China, leaving approximately 70,000 people dead, 374,000 injured, and 18,000 missing.  ADRA provided food, shelter materials, hygiene kits, improved sanitation, and medicine to those most in need, facilitated in part by their online efforts.  By making information about the tragedies and how to help easily accessible online, ADRA increased:

•              Online donations by 273%
•              Total website traffic by 106%

“We are so grateful that our online community responded with such an outpouring of support to our neighbors in China and Myanmar,” said Hudgins.  “With their help, we can continue to improve the lives of those most in need around the world.”
